KNOW THE CHILDREN'S ACT

Botswana as a Member State of the United Nations is Party to the Convention on the Rights of the Child. As in many countries in Southern Africa, children in Botswana continue to face myriad challenges ranging from negligence and violence, mental health and alcohol and substance abuse. The challenges above call for regular learning, innovation, sharing of experience and best practices within the social service workforce and frontline responders to children’s issues. It is against this background that the Pillar of Hope Organization has organized a capacity building training/ workshops held under the theme - ‘KNOW THE CHILDREN’S ACT’.

The workshop took place at Maun, Ghanzi, Seibe-Phikwe, Francistown, Molepolole, Gaborone (virtual) and its objectives was to empower stakeholders such as UNICEF ,Gender and Child Protection Unit- BPS and Legal Aid which are mandated to look after the welfare and wellbeing of children with regards to interventions, statutes and frameworks concerning children therefore being equipped with knowledge that can assist them to enhance their response to issues concerning child welfare and protection. It is also envisaged that the social service workforce will be more vested about the Children’s Act, which will consequently address the identified capacity gabs/ deficits.
